Admissions. Applicants are required to have graduated or expect to graduate from an accredited high school before entering the university. To apply for admission, complete and return the admissions application and a $35 processing fee. Have an official high school transcript with ACT scores (or SAT scores), mailed to the U Admissions Office.
The U requires incoming freshman students to have completed certain classes in high school such as four years of English and three years of science and meet minimum standards for high school GPA and ACT scores. Students must also meet the current year's admissions index requirement (see admissions standards).
Financial Aid and Scholarships . Financial assistance is available to incoming freshman students in the following ways: 1. Merit-based ("no need") scholarships awarded for outstanding academic, leadership, athletic, and extracurricular potential. 2. Need-based financial aid, as determined by government guidelines: grants, gift aid, which need not be repaid; student loans, and work study programs.
Scholarship deadline is February 1. Priority deadline for need-based financial aid is March 15. To be considered for scholarships and financial aid you must be an admitted student, and must apply by the deadlines. The priority date for students to apply and be admitted to the university before scholarship and financial aid deadlines is December 15.
Academics. Award-winning faculty, fifteen excellent colleges, and outstanding special programs for undergraduates make the University of Utah a top-notch choice for higher education. We look forward to working with students who share our enthusiasm for the learning process and our desire to make the world a better place.
A broad range of academic offerings, undergraduate research, and one of the top 10 service-learning programs in the nation allow students to gain hands-on experiences that enhance classroom knowledge. The Honors Program, third oldest in the nation, offers general education curricula and Honors baccalaureate degrees to high-achieving students. Exchange programs, internships, and study abroad opportunities also increase the undergraduate learning experience.
Campus life. There is always something going on at the U! The U has a very active student government that sponsors numerous cultural events and keeps students informed and involved in over 250 student organizations, as well as many leadership opportunities and campus events. Our campus is home to three theaters, two museums, and numerous athletic and recreational facilities, and has easy access to all the Salt Lake City area has to offer.
Housing. Experience campus living and you'll discover that college is much more than what you learn in the classroom. Maybe it's the computer labs and the Internet connections in every room, or the free tutoring and advising, the suite-style floor plans, the easy walk or free shuttles to class, and the open-all-day dining room that serves up freshly cooked meals on request. Whatever the reason, our students truly enjoy living on campus. Call Residential Living, 801-587-2002, for details on our residence halls and apartments.
Campus Tour. There's no substitute for getting the feel of a place and knowing if it's right for you. We invite you and your family to visit the U. The Office of Student Recruitment and High School Services gives daily information sessions and tours, and offers extended "U-Night" visits for high school seniors.
