The Utah College of Applied Technology
is unique among Utah 's colleges: its sole mission is to provide job training tailored specifically for business and industry workforce needs. UCAT has nine campuses across the state. Almost 60,000 students - both high school and adult learners - were served last year. Our faculty have extensive, current experience in business and industry. Small training classes are the norm with lots of hands-on experience and individualized instruction. UCAT currently offers three Associate of Applied Technology (AAT) degrees with more under development, and hundreds of options for short-term and long-term certificate training, within a college environment. Open-entry/open-exit options fit your schedule. Instruction is competency-based: you can progress at your chosen speed.

Admissions Standards. UCAT is an open-entry/open-exit, competency-based college. Admission is granted to all high school and adult applicants regardless of background, previous education, or experience.

Financial Aid and Scholarships. Financial aid is currently available at some campuses. UCAT will do everything possible, within available resources, to assist students in meeting education expenses.

Academics. Several UCAT campuses are accredited through the Council on Occupational Education (COE), with the remainder scheduled to complete the process during FY06/07. Many campuses hold special accreditation and/or recognition and certification for select programs. All UCAT programs are recognized by business and industry as preparation for employment. UCAT students can participate in a number of programs through partnerships with other colleges or business and industry. For example, UCAT runs a cooperative program in nursing with Weber State University and apprenticeship programs from diesel and electrical to welding with business and industry partners.

Campus Life. UCAT students come from all walks of life. The diversity on our campuses is a source of pride and provides an enriched learning environment for students. All UCAT campuses have student organizations. Special clubs related to specific training areas allow for state, regional, and national student competition. UCAT has received 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places at many competitions because our students are prepared. UCAT students are welcome to participate in student activities at other USHE colleges.

Housing. Although UCAT does not have specific campus housing, there are typically apartments and other housing available near the campuses. Most campuses have listings of available housing.
