USHE Admissions Index

GPA and Test Scores Required at Utah's Four Public Universities

To be accepted into any of Utah’s four public universities, students must demonstrate minimum academic achievement in grade point average and college placement test. The minimum requirements vary by institution (see Admissions Standards, previous page). NOTE: Admissions standards are subject to change; see a current admissions form for the most current information.

Your GPA and test score are equally important in establishing your admissions index number. Your admissions index gives you a general idea of your likelihood of being admitted. Contact an admissions counselor at the numbers listed below for details. To calculate your personal admissions index, using the admissions index chart, 1. locate your ACT or SAT score in the left-hand column; 2. locate your high school GPA across the top of the chart; and 3. find where the row your placement score is in intersects with the column your GPA is in. This is your personal admissions index.

Special and Nontraditional Admission

Utah's universities and colleges may admit, on a conditional basis, some individuals who do not meet regular admission standards. Special consideration may be given to those (for example, educationally disadvantaged, ethnic minority, and students with special talents) who do not meet the requirements listed above, but because of their special talents or diversity add to the college's character. Universities in areas where there isn't a community college may admit a number of special admission freshmen students who otherwise might not be able to enroll in college. If you have any questions, contact the admissions office of the school you wish to attend.
