R428, Support and Monitoring of Applied Technology Education
R428-1. Purpose
To reaffirm the commitment of the Utah System of Higher Education to
applied technology education, and to provide policy and procedure for annual
applied technology education reviews.

R428-3. Policy
3.1. Applied Technology Education Programming - Strong applied
technology education programming shall continue to be provided by Utah
State University, Metropolitan/Regional Universities, Utah Valley State
College and Community Colleges.
3.2. Monitoring - The Applied technology Education and training
programs at these institutions shall be regularly monitored, reviewed,
and adapted to meet changing community and statewide education and training
needs.
3.3. Financial Support - Financial support of applied technology
education shall be maintained and enhanced as specific provisions for applied
technology education are added in appropriated budgets.
R428-4. Annual applied technology education reviews
4.1. Annual Report - No later than October 31 of each fiscal
year, the President of each institution covered by this policy will submit
to the Commissioner of Higher Education an applied technology education
report in a format and containing such information as specified by the
Commissioner after consultation with the Presidents and their staffs. The
Commissioner will compile and analyze the reports for presentation to the
Board at its November or December meeting. The reports will include, but
not necessarily be limited to, information on program developments and
changes, including initiatives to meet training needs of business and industry,
and enrollment, completion, placement and financial trends.
4.2. Maintenance of Effort Comparisons - The Commissioner also
will provide financial maintenance of effort comparisons calculated in
consultation with the institutional budget officers.
