The Board of Regents is comprised of 18 residents of the State of Utah. 15 members are appointed by the governor with the consent of the Senate.
Each voting member of the State Board of Regents is appointed by the Governor to serve a six-year term, with the exception of the student Regent, who serves a one-year term. In addition, two members of the State Board of Education are appointed by its chair to serve as non-voting members of the State Board of Regents without a set term (Utah Code Annotated 53B-1-104).

Jed H. Pitcher (Term ends June 30, 2009)
Jed H. Pitcher, Salt Lake City, was elected Chair in June 2006 and re-elected in June 2008. He was appointed to the board in 2001. He is the former President and Chief Operating Officer of the Regence Group and current Chairman of the Board of Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah. Jed is a graduate of Utah State University and served as Chair of the Utah State University Board of Trustees from 1995-1999. He serves on several local corporate boards and is very active in community affairs. |

Bonnie Jean Beesley (Term ends June 30, 2009)
Bonnie Jean Beesley, Salt Lake City, was elected Vice Chair in June 2006 and re-elected in June 2008. She was appointed to the board in 2003. She served on the Salt Lake Community College Board of Trustees for seven years, including five years as its chair. Bonnie Jean is active in business and community organizations and boards of directors, including Heritage Bank and Utah Symphony and Opera |

Jerry C. Atkin (Term ends June 30, 2011)
Jerry C. Atkin, St. George, was appointed to the board in 1999. He is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SkyWest, Inc. and its subsidiary companies. He serves on the board of directors for Zions Bancorporation. |

Rosanita Cespedes (Term ends June 30, 2011)
Rosanita Cespedes, Salt Lake City, was appointed to the board in 2005. She is the Director of the Sorenson Multicultural Center, an entity of the Salt Lake City Department of Public Services. Rosanita previously worked as the Director of the Diagnostic Center for the Utah Department of Corrections. She was also Director of the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs at the University of Utah, where she also was Assistant to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology. She received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, M.S. Degrees in Rehabilitation and Community Counseling and Human Resource Management/Personnel, and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Utah. |

France Davis, Salt Lake City, was appointed to the board in 2008. He is pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Salt Lake City, where he has served for a number of years. |

Katharine B. Garff (Term ends June 30, 2009)
Katharine B. Garff, Bountiful, was appointed to the board in 2004. She is actively involved with many educational and community boards and committees, presently serving on the University of Utah’s National Advisory Council and the Utah Shakespearean Festival Board of Governors. She is a former chair of the University of Utah President’s Club and is past chair of the Utah State Board of Education. She is a graduate of the University of Utah with a B.S. Degree in Education. |

Greg W. Haws (No set term) – non-voting member
Greg W. Haws, Hooper, was appointed to the board in 2006. He is a certified public accountant and president of Haws Development Corp. He is a member of the State Board of Education and is the former auditor-clerk-treasurer of Weber County. He is a graduate of Weber State University, where he is an adjunct professor of accounting. Greg is a member of the Board of the Weber School District Foundation and formerly was a member of the Board of Directors of the Utah Transit Authority. He is active in the community and also serves on corporate and public boards and committees.

Meghan Holbrook (Term ends June 30, 2009)
Meghan Holbrook, Salt Lake City, was appointed to the board in 2004. She is employed by Zions Bank in the Office of the President. She was appointed to the Utah Transportation Commission in 2008. She also serves on the Board of the Salt Lake Visitors and Convention Bureau and is Vice Chair of Democrats for the West. Meg was the first woman elected chair of the Utah Democratic Party, where she served for six years. From 1995 to 2002 she served on the President’s Advisory Committee for the Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. |

David J. Jordan (Term ends June 30, 2009)
David J. Jordan, Bountiful, was appointed to the board in 1997. He is a partner with Stoel Rives LLP, where he specializes in commercial litigation. He is the former US Attorney for the District of Utah, and has served as vice chair of the US Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. Prior to his appointment to the Board of Regents, he served as Chair of the Southern Utah University Board of Trustees. |

Nolan E. Karras (Term ends June 30, 2011)
Nolan E. Karras, Roy, was appointed to the board in 2001 and served as Chair from May 2002 through June 2006. He is the CEO and President of SK Hart Management, LC. and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. He was employed for 23 years as president of The Karras Company, an Investment Advisor firm in Roy, Utah. Nolan served five terms in the Utah House of Representatives, including two years as Speaker; five years as Chair of the Utah State Building Board; and seven years on the Board of Trustees and Management Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. He holds a B.S. degree, cum laude, from Weber State University, an M.B.A. from the University of Utah, and honorary degrees from Dixie and CEU. He is active in the community, serving on a number of public and privately held boards of directors. |

Robert S. Marquardt (Term ends June 30, 2013)
Robert S. Marquardt, Salt Lake City, was appointed to the board in 2008. He is the president and CEO of Management & Training Corporation and has been a member of the senior management of that firm since 1991. Prior to that, he served as vice president of marketing and president of Merdian Publishing, a subsidiary of MTC. His public service experience includes membership on several boards and organizations, including the Board of Trustees for Weber State University. Bob holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and a law degree from the University of Utah.

Basim Motiwala (Student Regent - Term ends June 30, 2009)
Basim Motiwala, Salt Lake City, was appointed to the board in 2008. He is a student at the University of Utah and expects to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science and Health in May 2009. He was involved in student government at the University of Utah, where he was chosen Student of the Year. He is a volunteer for the UUHC Emergency Room and the IHC Cardiology Lab. Basim plans to continue his career in medicine.

Anthony W. Morgan (Term ends June 30, 2013)
Anthony W. Morgan, Salt Lake City, was appointed to the board in 2007. Tony is Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership and Policy and Vice President Emeritus of Budget and Planning at the University of Utah and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He is an international consultant for the World Bank and other agencies in higher education finance, planning and policy, and has served on various boards, including the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Marlon O. Snow (Term ends June 30, 2013)
Marlon O. Snow, Orem, was appointed to the board in 2001. He previously served as Chair of the Utah State Board of Education and Chair of the SBE-SBR Joint Liaison Committee. Marlon is a former member of the Utah House of Representatives. He is a member of the Utah Valley State College Foundation Board of Directors and of the Alpine School District Foundation Board. |

Teresa L. Theurer (Term ends June 30, 2013)
Teresa Theurer, Logan, was appointed to the board in 2008. She is currently serving in her eighth year as a member of the State Board of Education. She is a member of the Utah Medical Education Council and the Utah High School Activities Association Board of Trustees. She has also served in several state and national organizations concerning children’s and adolescent health issues. Teresa is a former member of the Utah College of Applied Technology Board of Trustees and the Edith Bowen Laboratory School Advisory Council. She graduated from Weber State University with an Associate Degree in Nursing. |

John H. Zenger (Term ends June 30, 2011)
John H. Zenger, Midway, was appointed to the board in 2007. He is the co-founder of Zenger | Folkman, a consulting firm that develops leaders and improves institutional effectiveness. Jack served as a trustee of UVSC from 1997 to 2003 and as its chair from 2003 to 2005. He serves on the boards of several private firms, charitable organizations and community foundations. He received a doctorate in business administration from USC. |
