A major is a field or subject, like psychology or engineering, which students choose to specialize in during college. Different majors lead to different careers. Each college offers a different set of majors. Some majors are available only at a single college. Use the resources below to explore the majors and subjects of interest to you.

USHE Majors Guide
The USHE Majors Guide provides information on the majors and degrees offered at each public college and university in Utah. Use this guide to learn about admission requirements and classes needed to complete a degree, and to access contact information for academic department advisors.
USHE Transfer Credit Guide
The USHE Transfer Guide shows students how course credits that are earned at one college will transfer to other Utah institutions (as long as minimum grades were earned). Use this guide when you are thinking about taking a class more than one college to learn, before you register, if the transfer credit will count toward your major.
Distance Education
The Utah Electronic College Consortium promotes Utah distance education classes and programs. UEC Service Center staff answer general questions about the 10 public colleges and universities in Utah. Use the UEC catalog to find over 1200 distance education classes and information on over 40 distance delivered certificates and degrees.
Career and Technical Education
Career and Technical Education programs in subjects like agriculture, health science, technology, or trades prepare high school students to transition successfully to postsecondary education and help college students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to find gainful employment. Use the information found at www.utahcte.org to learn more about the numerous programs available.
General Education
All degrees have a general education component with math and English classes and classes from fine arts, humanities, social science, and science. General education classes allow students to explore new subject areas while improving communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills (General Education Learning Goals). This exploration is a critical component of the college experience. Students can start their college experience with general education classes, regardless of major. Exploring different subjects may help with choosing a major and setting career goals. Look for general education information on campus websites.
