Regents Announce Finalists for Snow College President
|
|
Today, the State Board of Regents announced six finalists it will interview for the position of president of Snow College, which is located in Ephraim and Richfield, Utah. The Presidential Search Committee recommended the finalists from a pool of 24 applicants representing 10 states. The Board of Regents will hold an open meeting on Thursday, July 19, at 7:30 a.m. to swear in new Regents: Tony Morgan and Amy Engh. The Regents will then meet in a closed Executive Session to interview the candidates. The meetings will be held in the Heritage Room of the Noyes Building on the campus of Snow College in Ephraim. The Board may convene a public meeting later that day to select the president, or may reconvene on another day, which would be announced later. Dr. Gary L. Carlston, associate professor in the Utah State University (USU) Department of Elementary Education since 2003. He has held numerous positions in public and higher education. Dr. Carlston served as the deputy superintendent for the Utah State Office of Education from 1999 to 2002, as former Governor Michael O. Leavitt’s deputy for education from 1997 to 1999, and as associate dean for the College of Education and tenured associate professor for the Department of Elementary Education at USU from 1995 to 1997. He was the superintendent of Logan City School District from 1988 to 1995. Dr. Carlston has been a principal for K-12 schools in Utah and Wyoming. He has also been a member and chairman of the Snow College Institutional Council and Board of Trustees. Dr. Carlston earned an Ed.D. in education administration from Brigham Young University, an M.Ed. in secondary education from USU, a bachelor’s degree in history from USU, and an Associate of Science from Snow College. |

Dr. Val L. Peterson, vice president of Administration and Legislative Affairs for Utah Valley State College (UVSC) since 2006. Dr. Peterson is currently the brigade commander for the 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist) of the Utah National Guard. He has held several leadership positions at UVSC since 1987, including vice president of Administration and External Affairs, vice president for College Relations, associate vice president for College Relations, assistant vice president for College Relations, and adjunct faculty for Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Business. Dr. Peterson also worked as an account executive for Public Relations Counselors, Inc. in 1987. From Brigham Young University, he earned a doctorate in educational leadership, a master’s degree in mass communications, and a bachelor’s degree in public relations. |

Dr. Paul B. Prestwich, vice president of Academic Affairs at Sussex County Community College in Newton, New Jersey since 2005. From 1999 to 2005, he served as the dean of Academic Services, the dean of Arts and Sciences and the associate dean for Business, Mathematics, and Science at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. While at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, he served as the assistant dean of Undergraduate Academics and the assistant dean of the Faculty from 1997 to 1999. He has served as an adjunct instructor for Sussex County Community College and Northeastern Junior College; as an associate faculty member at the National American University in Denver, Colorado; as an adjunct assistant professor of social sciences at the Stevens Institute of Technology; and as a teaching assistant at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Prestwich earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado. |

Mr. Stephen D. Taylor, owns Big Cat Ventures, Inc. (established in 1998). Mr. Taylor is a private investor and board member of Traditional Building Skills Institute at Snow College and Target Bank, Inc., in Salt Lake City. He was the director of Conseco Bank, in Salt Lake City from 1999 to 2003. A former financial services executive from 1971 to 1997, Mr. Taylor led clean-up efforts for NIPF Company, in Mesa, Arizona (1997) and was the CEO of the Miami, Florida-based American Savings of Florida (1991-1995). From 1988 to 1991, based in New York City, he served as a member of Citicorp’s Credit Policy Committee and performed as the senior credit officer for Citicorp’s U.S. Consumer Banking Group. He was the CEO of Citicorp consumer finance and banking businesses in Asia and the United States from 1979 to1988. Beginning in 1972, he served in executive roles in Citigroup businesses in Asia. Mr. Taylor was a member, vice president and president-elect of the Savings Institution Advisory Board to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. from 1994 to 1995. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, attended the American University of Cairo (Egypt), and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. |

Dr. Richard L. White, executive vice president for the Richfield Campus of Snow College since 2002. He was the vice president for Academic and Student Affairs and the vice president for Academic Affairs for Snow College from 1986 to 2002. Dr. White was the director of the Management Institute in the College of Business Administration at the University of Central Florida from 1985 to 1986. At Brigham Young University, he served as the coordinator of Management Programs from 1979 to 1984 and as the administrator of Graduate Studies from 1978 to 1979. Dr. White has taught graduate, undergraduate and non-credit courses in departments of business, organizational behavior, educational administration, and communications. He is currently a member of the Richfield City Council and is on the Board of Directors of the Richfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. White earned a doctorate in higher education administration from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in education from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Utah State University. |

Mr. Scott L. Wyatt, managing partner of Daines & Wyatt, LLP (since 2002) and a representative in the Utah State Legislature (since 2005). Mr. Wyatt was the county attorney for Cache County Corporation from 1995 to 2002 and a partner in the law firm Barrett, Daines & Wyatt from 1990 to 1995. He has been an instructor for Utah State University (USU) and Bridgerland Applied Technology College, a counselor for Student Legal Services at USU, and a law clerk in the Education Division for the Utah Attorney General. He is the vice chair of the Bear River Mental Health Board of Directors. Mr. Wyatt was a member of the Snow College Board of Trustees (1993-2005), including its chair from (2001-2005); a student member of the State Board of Regents (1986-1987); and a member of the USU Board of Trustees, as student body president (1985-1985). He earned a J.D. from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and economics from USU. |
The search committee has selected highly qualified finalists,” said Regent Josh Reid, who chaired the Presidential Search Committee. “I am appreciative of the local involvement and support throughout this process. Everyone should be pleased with the outcome of this tremendous effort.” The committee was comprised of 22 individuals representing the Regents, Snow College Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and community members. ### |
